How to Buy a Diamond Ring:

Understanding the 4Cs

  1. Cut

This would have to be the most important C. You want an ideal or near an ideal cut, so angles and proportions of the diamonds produce the ultimate brightness, fire, and scintillation. People usually ask for carats, or want a certain amount of carats, but the cut is what everyone notices and what most people actually care about is the diamond sparkle.

  1. Color

The color of a diamond goes from D to J. The D color would have to be the most expensive because it is colorless while the J color is cheaper because it is starting to get noticeably yellow. Most of the time though, D diamonds are not 100% noticeable so if you are on a budget, H/I diamonds are the way to go. They appear white, but they are significantly cheaper.

  1. Carat

Most people usually think that carat is the size, but this is actually the weight of the stone. The small change in carat could make a big difference in price, but they aren’t even noticeable to the naked eye. Don’t sacrifice your cut for carats, and get a bit under a defined marker for a better deal.

  1. Clarity

This would have to be the least important C, but important nonetheless. Natural diamonds have flaws and the clarity is there to measure the flaws (like the inclusions and the blemishes). It all depends on the grade.

Buying an engagement ring is a great way to show your love and gratitude to the person you see yourself spending the rest of your life with.
